Kindness is the key.

I know of someone who is finding a few ruts on the road in her journey of life. She is having troubles with depression, and finds it hard to get her day going. She has no energy or will to do anything. Last night I stayed over and watched her children so she could go to work. I also folded a MOUNTAIN of laundry for her.   She hadn't asked me to, and she didn't know I had done it until she got home from work in the wee morning hours. I just wanted to do that for her, as I knew how much it would help her out. It was no big deal for me, and the kids were quietly tucked in bed already anyways.  I had the time.

I went there tonight again, after teaching kids classes, and her husband who she is separated from, and I, shovelled her walks, and driveway for her.  She didn't own a shovel and the city was going to fine her for not cleaning the walks. The snow and ice was pretty piled up. It took an ice chipper and sledge hammer to break up some of the ice. While we were shovelling, this person had found the energy to make a nice dinner for us all, and we sat and had a nice visit all together. This person expressed to us how much she appreciated our acts of kindness. She had tears in her eyes as she told us that it was the first time in a very long time, that she felt a bit of happiness in her life again.
